Catching and Processing
State of the art wheelhouse electronics onboard a factory vessel
Most New Zealand EEZ fish species are caught, processed and packaged at sea on modern, sophisticated fishing vessels purpose built to harvest seafood in a range of environmental conditions.
Equipped with state of the art electronics for fish location and identification, qualified and skilled fishermen are able to actively target species and catch levels based on quota holdings and vessel processing capacities.
On-board factories manned by up to 30 processing workers, process the seafood catch around the clock. Modern factory machinery incorporating purpose built measuring, cutting and freezing technologies is used to produce high quality fresh seafood products ensuring the best possible quality from sea to plate.
Automated packaging and storage equipment on-board factory vessels ensures that the final stages of product delivery to shore conclude with accurate, well kept records of product by species, size and product type. Frozen product kept at sub-zero temperatures can then simply be shipped directly from catching vessel to freight vessel for overseas export markets.
