Skilled Workforce
The rapid pace of technological change in EEZ fisheries means there is a constant need to up-skill crews. Training is generally recognised as a vital part of seafood industry companies' ongoing success.
Work-based training in the seafood industry is high by national standards - some 20 percent of the workforce is signed into formal training agreements. Training on New Zealand vessels is through nationally recognised certificate or diploma level standards.
These have been specially developed by New Zealand's Seafood Industry Training Organisation (SITO) and cover such areas as risk management, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
